In one of the most intense episode this season, Shawn Hatosy gives an acting masterclass with one of his best performances

We already knew that the sixth and final season of 'Animal Kingdom' would be filled with a lot of situations that would make us gasp. Last week's episode was exactly that and when Pope told J and Deran that a cop had been tailing him for a while, it meant that things look bleak for the entire family. But it seems, that Detective Louise Thompson has everything mapped out and she is as cold as Pope (Shawn Hatosy). After last week's intense discussion, Thompson is set to take Pope into custody, but not for killing Catherine. Instead, she wants him in for assaulting a young man named Taylor, the skater kid that was sent to Cody by Thompson.

On the other hand, J (Finn Cole) and Deran (Jake Weary) are really worried because Pope is nowhere to be seen and they should find him as soon as possible because the police might be coming to get him.

'Animal Kingdom' Season 6 Episode 8 Review: It's Pope vs Thompson in intense chapter of lies and deceit

Every member of the family is feeling nervous because this is the first in many years that they have found themselves in such an anxious situation. This is also the first time in recent years, we have seen Pope really scared about getting caught. That's why he was hiding in Craig's (Ben Robson) apartment, which was earlier given to Baz by Smurf (Leila George). Pope killed Catherine in Craig's bed. Oh, by the way, Craig knows nothing about what's happening because he's dealing with his own set of problems. But when he gets to know Pope is not talking about it, he makes sure that the oldest member of the Cody family tells them everything. He tells them that Smurf told him to do that. Craig was really angry and told him that he could have said no. But really, when they have said no to anything that Smurf told them to. It almost felt like she hypnotized them in her aura and they just went out there to do her work.

However, the real magic happens when Pope and Deran reach the station. Their lawyer tells them it's better to surrender themselves in this matter. Pope surrenders and Louise is interrogating him. The makers have done a wonderful thing by introducing a character who is somewhat similar to Pope. She interrogates him like a priest telling one of the churchgoers how they have sinned and the only way to redemption is to confess. We never saw Pope like this and trust me, he was really scared of what was waiting for him. The masterstroke played by Louise was that she even included Amy in her plan. She talked to Amy earlier and told her everything. Now, I don't know if she was telling the truth or not, but her plan worked.

She came out and told Deran that Pope will spend the night in jail because he confessed to CATHERINE'S MURDER. Deran's look said it all and that was the same that I had when she said that. The entire mood changed. Everything changed and the Cody Boys are now fighting the biggest bout of their lives.

Shawn Hatosy gives an incredible performance in this episode and his impeccable acting takes the episode to a whole new level. He is one of the most underrated actors of this generation. His scene with Jake Weary where they talk about old times was truly exceptional and will make you feel really emotional. It's all about Pope in this episode and Hatosy keeps everyone hooked to their screens with one of his best performances. Superb!

On the other hand, Moran Atias is turning out to be a scene stealer this season and gives another superb performance.

'Animal Kingdom' Season 6 returns to TNT with a new episode every Sunday at 9 pm EST.
