The sixth and final season of ‘Animal Kingdom’ is slowly inching toward its conclusion and things are getting pretty intense for the Cody Boys. The latest episode has been devastating for everyone and saw Detective Louise Thompson (Moran Atias) doing everything to have Pope (Shawn Hatosy) behind the bars. It’s not easy to have the Codys in control, many have tried it and they failed. But it seems the time has finally come for Pope to answer about the things he has done for Smurf, one of which was Catherine’s murder.
During the last week’s episode, Thompson (Moran Atias) made Pope really uncomfortable by telling him that she knows about Catherine. However, she took the game to a whole new level by convincing her detective friends that Pope needs to get charged for things he has done, and once again, the scapegoat was Taylor, the skater kid. Pope has been feeling really anxious since that conversation and feels that whatever he did for Smurf is now coming back to haunt him. But finally, the moment arrives and Pope surrenders in front of the police on the charges of assaulting Taylor.

However, as soon as Thompson meets Pope it’s all about Catherine’s murder. She shows him a photo of her dead body and even brings Lena and Amy into their conversation. She allegedly says that Amy told her everything about what he did and the only way to redemption is to confess. In the end, everyone received the shock of their life when Thompson came out and told Deran that Pope confessed to Catherine’s murder. It was one helluva episode and Shawn Hatosy’s impeccable performance was one of the primary reasons why the episode was loved by one and all.
Fans flooded social media with their reactions to Hatosy’s performance and also discussed how he never gets love during the awards season. One of the fans said, “The way Shawn Hatosy plays Pope really deserves an award. Even the way he sits is unsettling. He’s really like a wounded animal.” Another fan wrote, “My poor Pope! @ShawnHatosy knocking it out of the park AGAIN.” Another social media user wrote, “Shawn Hatosy absolutely knocked tonight's episode out of the park.” Another Twitter user wrote, “I lowkey don't understand why people don't follow Shawn Hatosy around throwing awards at his feet. The man acts his ASS off.”
“Shawn Hatosy killing as Pope. He's such an underrated actor,” wrote another fan. “Something wrong if @ShawnHatosy doesn’t get nominated for an Emmy,” said another fan.
Hatosy has been a part of the entertainment industry since 1995 and appeared in several projects such as ‘Inflammable’, ‘The Postman’, ‘Tangled’, ‘John Q’, ‘The Lazarus Project’, and ‘Public Enemies’. After doing ‘Public Enemies’ in 2009, Hatosy has mostly been doing TV and garnered wider recognition with shows like ‘Reckless’ and ‘Southland’, for which he received the Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. However, it was ‘Animal Kingdom’ that made him a household name. His character, Pope, instantly became a fan favorite and continues to be a force to be reckoned with.
With Pope behind the bars, all other three members of the Cody Family will be working their a**es off to get him out of there. However, with Pope confessing to Catherine’s murder, it seems he has to spend some time inside the prison and might have to endure violence there as well.
‘Animal Kingdom’ Season 6 returns to TNT with a new episode every Sunday at 9 pm EST.
