The Washington Nationals have been fielding a lot of offers from teams for outfielder Juan Soto … but a deal might not happen at all.
The St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres have been the three teams that have been in Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto the most.
As we reported in this article yesterday, the Cardinals were offering the most to the Nationals at least by young, major league talent. The Padres, on the other hand, were offering the most in terms of prospects. The Dodgers, while finalists, seemed to be in third place of the three teams.
With 24 hours left until the trade deadline, things have changed.
Where Juan Soto trade rumors stand with 24 hours to go
As of this publication, the Los Angeles Dodgers have started to make some stronger offers to the Nationals for Juan Soto.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today and others also have reported that the Nationals are willing to keep Soto if nobody meets their very high asking price.
The Nationals are reportedly asking for about five players in return and they might want a team to take on starting pitcher Patrick Corbin's contract.
For the Cardinals, players that could be included in a deal are infielder Nolan Gorman, starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore, outfielder Dylan Carlson, third base prospect Jordan Walker, and shortstop prospect Masyn Winn. For the Padres, players that have been discussed in a deal include starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, infielder CJ Abrams, pitcher Adrian Morejón, and outfield prospect Robert Hassell III.
If one of the teams gets Soto, they will have him for this postseason run and two more seasons before he hits free agency. All three of the teams (barring a drastic turn of events) will also be in the postseason. The Nationals, on the other hand, have the worst record in the sport this year.
