Mason Mount could miss Chelsea's match with Aston Villa due to a thigh issue.

Mason Mount is a doubt for Chelsea's match with Aston Villa on Sunday after picking up a thigh injury.

Mount has been a key player at his club since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel, being the only outfield player to start every match under the new manager so far.

He showed why that was the case against AC Milan in the Champions League, winning a penalty before setting up his side's second goal in the space of 34 minutes.

The midfielder didn't play for much longer though with Potter subbing him off at half-time, and it has now emerged that he's struggling with a thigh issue.

That issue prevented him from training with his team on Friday and has made him a doubt for their trip to Aston Villa.

According to the Athletic, he underwent a scan on Saturday to assess the situation and it's unclear whether those results have given him the all-clear for the match.

Such an injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Potter, with fellow midfielder N'Golo Kante ruled out for around three months with a hamstring injury.

Conor Gallagher is the most likely replacement for Mount should he be unavailable, although Kai Havertz could also come in for him if the 3-4-2-1 system that was deployed against AC Milan is used again.

A change of formation could also see Ruben Loftus-Cheek feature with the 26-year-old performing well at times this season, but he could instead be used out wide now that Reece James has been ruled out for a number of weeks.
