Three concertgoers sustained minor injuries during Dua Lipa’s performance in Toronto after a set of unauthorized fireworks took off inside the Scotiabank Arena. Cops reportedly responded to the incident after someone had lit fireworks during the singer’s final song.
Addressing the grim issue, Dua Lipa, who enjoys nearly 86 million followers on Instagram, posted a lengthy message on her Instagram Story, claiming that creating a safe and inclusive space at her shows was always her first priority and that she was shocked and confused by the turn of events. According to TMZ, some fans somehow managed to sneak fireworks inside the venue eventually lighting them up at the end of Dua Lipa’s concert. Agitated social media users on Twitter then demanded that every security personnel from the concert should be fired over negligence.

‘I’m so deeply sorry for anyone who was scared’
Dua Lipa, on Instagram, took the responsibility for the unfortunate incident that happened on Wednesday night, July 27. “Last night, unauthorized fireworks went off in the crowd during my set in Toronto. Creating a safe and inclusive space at my shows is always my first priority, and my team and I are just as shocked and confused by the events as you all are”, the 26-year-old crooner wrote on July 28.
She continued, “There is an ongoing investigation into the events being conducted, and everyone is working hard to find how this incident occurred,” adding, “Bringing this show to life for my fans has been such an amazing experience, and I’m so deeply sorry for anyone who was scared, felt unsafe or whose enjoyment of the show was affected in any way. All my love, Dua.” Several videos surfaced on the Internet that saw the crowd getting dispersed after the unauthorized fireworks went off.
A concert-goer told People magazine, “It was at the end, during her final song, and confetti was already out, so we thought it was part of the finale. No one was fazed by it other than the people in the pit, [but it was] hella scary. According to TMZ, despite the minor injuries, no fan was hospitalized.
A spokesperson for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), which owns the arena, released an official statement. “Last night, at the end of a concert event at Scotiabank Arena, unauthorized and illegal fireworks were set off on the arena floor by a member of the audience.” The statement further read, “As a result, three attendees received minor aid on-site and were able to go home without a need for further medical attention.”
MLSE added, “As one of the premier venues in North America, creating a safe and secure venue for every attendee at Scotiabank Arena is MLSE's top priority and we immediately began working in cooperation with Toronto Police Services to fully investigate this reckless and dangerous act. As always, we thank Toronto Police Services, the on-site medical team, employees, and concert attendees for their swift support in responding to this incident,” as published by People magazine.

Social media users flocked to Twitter as one of the users posted, “Didn’t realize the fireworks at the @DUALIPA concert at @ScotiabankArena were not planned until Dua actually pulled her hair back.”
Another fuming individual mentioned, “Also a massive f**k you to whoever snuck fireworks at dua lipa’s concert in Toronto tonight. some of y’all clearly don’t know how to behave at concerts and somebody could of gotten hurt.”
Whereas, one added, “Someone set off fireworks into the crowd at dua lipa that was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve experienced I thought we were dying tonight.”
The next one tweeted, “The security last night for the premium gate barely checked any of the bags, they didn’t even look or touch mine or my friends. they just seemed so rushed. please get this fixed asap - it could’ve been bad last night, thankfully it was “only” fireworks and nothing worse.”
Another shared, “Every single security guard working the Dua Lipa concert needs to be fired - imagine if it wasn’t fireworks and there was a repeat of what happened in Manchester?” And, one concluded, “Only in Toronto would people sneak fireworks into the Dua Lipa concert and set them off towards the crowd.”
