The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros have struck a deal, as Christian Vazquez is heading to the AL West.
The Sox were in clear sell mode, and with Vazquez on an expiring contract, a deadline deal made all the sense in the world. It didn't seem to bother Vazquez one bit, who mentioned over the weekend that he wouldn't be surprised if he were moved.
Well, what do you know?
Vazquez is headed to Houston, where he'll take over (at least some of the time) for catcher Martin Maldonado, who is hitting far below the Mendoza line. As much as the Houston pitchers like Maldonado, he is not a playoff-caliber backstop.
Vazquez, meanwhile, was slashing .282/.327/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in Boston.
