These five monster MLB series are ones you must see live this August.

By the time the baseball season reaches August, fans have a clear idea of which MLB series will have a lot at stake and which are more about players auditioning for next season. In August 2022, the MLB schedule features some monster MLB series you need to see live.

The Big Apple all the way out to Southern California with some stops along the way, these are five big MLB series worth the price of admission in August.

Monster MLB series: Braves at Mets August 4-7

The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are fighting for the National League East crown. The Mets have held onto it for most of the season but the Braves are the defending champions and hoping to repeat what they did in 2022.

From August 4-7, the Braves visit Flushing to play five games in four days against the Mets. A doubleheader on Saturday adds to the frenzy of this battle.

The rivalry between the Braves and Mets doesn't get quite enough attention. One reason is that the Braves dominating the National League East for so long. However, these two teams have already battled in the postseason twice in the past. This year, they could face off in a rubber match.

This year's rosters might be two of the most fun. The Mets have the pitching and some decent hitting to back it up. Meanwhile, it's the Braves who have one of the most underrated and powerful lineups in the game. With five games scheduled, the two clubs will be exhausting their resources and pulling zero punches. The Braves will get their first taste of Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom possibly pitching on back-to-back days as well.

You should be there. They may wish they hadn't shown up.

MLB monster series: Padres at Dodgers August 5-7

Another monster MLB series will take place that same weekend. Out in Southern California, the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Diego Padres. Two mammoth ball clubs in the National League will battle it out.

The National League West isn't as up-for-grabs. The Dodgers made sure of that. The Padres, however, would probably like to secure themselves the top wild card spot. The Braves are their biggest competitor for that position. So while they're trying to take down the Dodgers, their eyes might also gaze at the scoreboard to see what's going on in New York.

Even if the Dodgers have the National League West in their grasp, they have to win games to ensure either the Mets or Braves don't take the number one seed from them. Taking their foot off the gas can be catastrophic.

Both teams in this MLB series have different reasons for wanting to win a championship. The Dodgers have invested a lot of money, prospects, and years into this project. All they've won so far was the World Series in the shortened 2020 season. The Padres have yet to win themselves a single title. They are all in this season and will undoubtedly look to knock the Dodgers off the pedestal many fans place them on.

MLB monster series: Brewers at Cardinals August 12-14

Not all of the best MLB series take place in the two biggest markets. Some are tucked away in the middle of the country. This is the one for the National League Central between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals from August 12-14.

There may actually not be a more difficult to predict division ace than this one. Both teams have swapped spots at the top. The Brewers have been the stronger team although they've had faults of their own throughout the season.

These three games in St. Louis will be essential for both clubs to come out on top.

What makes it most troubling is that whichever team doesn't win the division might not even get into the postseason. While our other monster MLB series to see live in August include a pair of teams practically guaranteed to earn themselves a playoff berth, these three games can go a long way toward eliminating someone entirely.

Throughout the 2022 season, the Brewers and Cardinals have each had a tendency to slump. Injuries are in part to blame. Underwhelming performances can also have the finger pointed at them.

Losing this series won't be a death sentence for either ball club. However, with things so close for most of the season, they might end up reflecting back on it as the time when they let the year slip away.

MLB monster series: Astros at Braves August 19-21

Games between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves aren't as common as they used to be. With the Astros now in the American League for a few years, we had to wait for the rare interleague matchup. This changes next season with a more balanced MLB schedule. Why wait until then? Go out and see this monster MLB series when it happens.

The Astros visit the Braves from August 19-21 for a late-season World Series rematch. The Braves came away as the winners back in October 2021. Will the Astros have an edge in the regular season?

There is no telling what kind of excitement this series will bring or even where these clubs will be in the standings. The Astros do have to remain concerned about the Yankees. The Braves will have already gone through some battling against the Mets.

What's not to love about this series? The Astros and Braves each have veterans and young players in their cores. Each has dreams of facing off against each other yet again in the postseason. With Justin Verlander available for the Astros this time and Austin Riley hoping to finish the year with even better numbers than he had in 2021, look for a playoff-like atmosphere down in Georgia for these three days.

MLB monster series: Mets at Yankees August 22-23

The rematch between the Astros and Braves will take place right before the New York Mets and New York Yankees play each other two more times. The Mets took both games in July when they were the host. This time, the Yankees get to be the ones with the last ups.

Mets vs. Yankees has taken on a whole new life in 2022. Astros and Braves played in last year's World Series. They're old news. This year could come down to a Subway Series between these two powerhouse clubs sharing a city.

The Yankees should continue to cruise as the American League East winners while the Mets have to worry about the Braves catching them. Even if each club manages to not lose a single game between now and the time they meet up again, there isn't a bigger MLB series out there than when the largest market in the country has two clubs face off against each other.

Whether you drive or take a train to the ballpark, watching a Subway Series matchup at any point in the season should be on every baseball fan's bucket list. Unless they meet in October, this will be the last chance to see it in 2022. It may also be one of the best matchups considering how good both clubs are.
